The Sopron Industrial and Innovation Park

The Sopron Industrial and Innovation Park (SIP) received the "Industrial Park" title in 1997. The government supported the establishment of 28 industrial parks on 26 different locations - mainly major towns - in the first year of the foundation process of industrial parks in Hungary. Sopron - a town with county authority - was among these firs round settlements. This fact meant that the town had a positive remark. On one hand, it denoted that the developments of the innovation activities, based on the university are consistent with the national and regional development efforts. On the other hand, this decision put forward the earning and aimed allocation of PHARE funds.
The total area of SIP counts 60 hectares. Sip successfully applied for central and PHARE funds to establish the industrial parks infrastructure. In the first phase of this process, 18 hectares of the area received total infrastructural support. As a part of the works, the following elements were built: water-pipes and the canal system under and along the roads in the area, rainwater offtake system, gas-pipes, electrical network, and telecommunication network. The size of infrastructure is capable of satisfying all expectable future needs.
The area system, created by the internal roads of the industrial park is the fundamental basis of the localization of future settling. According to the roads, the size of the land to be sold was also partially assigned. The size and location of saleable land was decided according to the local regulations: 60% ground-plot and minimum 20% open space.
